On 1 June, Haley Byrd tweeted a photo of how her boyfriend Even Wilt, who’d never had a Kit Kat before, consumed the famous chocolate-covered wafer bar.
Instead of breaking off the Kit Kat segments as per its famous Gimme a Break jingle, Wilt bit straight into all four pieces in one large mouthful that left hardcore Kit Kat fans utterly appalled.

The tweet’s 34,600 likes not only cajoled Twitter’s pitchforks—including calls to “dump him” and that the photo should have “come with a graphic content warning”—but also caught the attention of the brand.
Similar to Reese’s, Kit Kat got in touch with the couple and sent Wilt a Kit Kat-themed care package so that he could catch a break after receiving all the online critique.
Despite the feedback, Byrd insisted that Wilt was a keeper. Likewise, Wilt knew Byrd was the one for him, and had already been planning a proposal prior to getting down on one knee on 3 July—the couple’s one-year anniversary.
To make the event even more memorable, The Hershey Company that produces Kit Kat secretly collaborated with the groom to create a special 3D-printed hollow Kit Kat bar to house the engagement ring.
After gathering both their families together during the 4th of July weekend under the premise of taking family photos, Wilt proposed to Byrd with the sweet surprise and in the company of loved ones.
Moreover, the brand sent the couple a custom-made Kit Kat cake to celebrate the occasion. Byrd revealed that it tasted just like the chocolate-covered wafer bar, including its icing layer.
Unfortunately, Byrd highlights that Wilt still does not know to eat a Kit Kat bar the correct way, but after all the effort he’d put into the proposal, this thoughtful groom deserves a break.
