Watch: Japanese Designer Creates World’s Largest Robot, Entirely On His Own
By Yoon Sann Wong, 08 Aug 2018
The Japanese are known to be a hardworking people, and this certainly rings true for engineer Masaaki Nagumo.
For six years, Nagumo worked on the 28-feet-tall, fully functional ‘LW-Mononofu’—considered to be the world’s largest robot.
The android was inspired by one of Nagumo’s most beloved anime series, Mobile Suit Gundam. It has movable arms, legs, and even a gun… that shoots sponge balls.
When asked by Great Big Story whether he enjoyed making the robot, Nagumo ironically admits that he didn’t. “It’s [easy to get] burned—it’s heavy, and dirty. There’s nothing to enjoy,” he says amidst a chuckle.
