IKEA Officially Opens In India, Uses Solar-Powered Rickshaws For Deliveries

Swedish furniture giant IKEA officially opened its first store in India on 9 August in the city of Hyderabad and received a very enthusiastic welcome reception.
Unlike its delivery fleets in other countries, IKEA India has taken to another mode of transport to tackle the country’s infamously dense traffic and at times, narrow streets: solar-powered rickshaws.
The electric vehicles will be fueled by 4,000 solar panels that have been installed on the roof of its store’s building. Any excess electricity generated will power the store’s lighting and other electricity-related operations.
The rickshaws come in IKEA’s signature colors, with its logo on the front, that instantly stand out from the crowd.
