Aeris.Net and Sony Ericsson Team Up to Provide CDMA M2M Communication Solution
Sony Ericsson's new CM-52 radio module to bring robust and future-proof features to Aeris' CDMA MicroBurst® Network

SAN JOSE, CA and RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC - With plans to maintain the lead in wireless machine-to-machine communications, Aeris.net, the largest network provider for wireless M2M communications services, today announced it has selected Sony Ericsson's CM-52 radio module, as its primary CDMA MicroBurst radio. Sony Ericsson will embed Aeris' MicroBurst technology into the CM-52 and Aeris will certify the CM-52 for its CDMA MicroBurst service. This will provide an M2M solution that includes network services and OEM hardware for robust, short-packet messaging solutions to the industrial, fleet and automotive industries.

Anders Franzén, corporate vice president and head of machine to machine communications for Sony Ericsson said, "We are pleased to join Aeris in an agreement that ultimately gives fleet owners the ability to exploit the growing implementation of M2M services. Our CM-52 is an excellent choice to support Aeris' CDMA Microburst service given its rugged design, network coverage and advanced mobile IP features. We believe our collaborative development efforts will further the deployment of advanced, M2M services."

"This offering will provide the M2M community with a highly robust and sophisticated solution for fixed and mobile applications. We are looking forward to continued leadership in CDMA M2M market with Sony Ericsson," said Dick Gossen, president and CEO for Aeris.net. "Our always-on seamless network integrated with the CM-52 promises to provide M2M application providers with accessibility and control of their machines."

The Sony Ericsson CM-52 is a low cost, CDMA telematics and telemetry module to support the pervasive growth of automotive and industrial applications like driver navigation, security, cargo tracking, mobility services, infotainment and meter reading. A tri-mode device supporting AMPS 800, CDMA 800/1900, the CM-52 has the widest network coverage in North America, includes fully implemented mobile IP, and offers the only 3W AMPS continuous operation mode in the industry. Its rugged design withstands the stringent environmental and industrial variables often present with automotive, freight and fleet applications. Sony Ericsson has been the leader in telematics module development for more than four years and is heralded by its automotive customers for providing feature-rich, cost competitive and durable modules.

Aeris.net currently aggregates the networks of more than 30 cellular operators throughout Canada, the U.S. and Mexico to provide the largest M2M wide area network in North America. Designed from the ground-up to serve mobile and fixed short packet data communications, the MicroBurst network combines the existing wireless infrastructures of today's leading wireless carriers with proprietary control channel technology to create a multi-carrier data network specifically optimized for M2M data communications.
