In case you couldn’t get a new work table at IKEA in time, Danish furniture design studio Stykka has a solid, last-minute option you can either order or print yourself.
The aptly-named ‘#StayTheF**kHome Desk’ is a flat-pack cardboard workstation you can set up in mere minutes with cable ties. It measures 120 centimeters (47.2 inches) wide, 62 centimeters (25.4 inches) deep and 82 centimeters (32.3 inches) high.
The desk is priced at £75 (US$92.72) and will be delivered to doorsteps across Denmark, Austria, Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, and the UK. There’s also the option to print its design files for free and assemble the piece of furniture yourself if you have cardboard, a laser cutter and cable ties on hand.
The Stykka team made the files open-source and downloadable for free to “benefit as many people as possible,” founder Jarl Vindnæs explained in a statement via Dezeen.
The studio got the idea to create the flat-pack desk after a lockdown was imposed on Denmark to fight the coronavirus. Some of its employees didn’t have sufficient desk space at home, so they built the #StayTheF**kHome Desk in less than 24 hours.
Plus, the cardboard workstation is eco-friendly, and you can fully recycle it when you no longer have to work from home. The purchasable version is made with 80-percent recycled fibers obtained from a Danish facility to be more sustainable. Find out more here.
