Officials of a city in China built a highway bridge around a house after its owner refused to sell it off to the government.
A video released by the local media shows the property sandwiched between two wings of the newly-built Haizhuyong Bridge in Guangzhou, and situated in the middle of the four-lane traffic link.
According to Guangdong TV station, the owner of the one-storey house, Ms Liang, was adamant about staying put because the government had failed to offer her an ideal replacement property.
She said she was “more than happy to deal with the consequences,” and claimed that the current environment is “quiet, liberating, pleasant and comfortable.”
The building is described as a “nail house” in China, where the owner rejects compensation from a developer for its demolition.
Government officials had planned to demolish the plot in 2010 to build Haizhuyong Bridge. Apparently, Liang is the only occupant out of 47 households and seven firms who still lives there.
