A viral ‘Gen Z tattoo’ is under heat for using a questionable design that resembles a Nazi emblem.
It started with TikTok user @smoothavacados asking fellow users from Generation Z to get a matching ink design as a representation of “unity” and “rebellion.” The art featured the capital letter Z and a horizontal line through it.
At the beginning, many were drawn to the idea, with some even getting it inked on their body. Later on, however, others pointed out the symbol’s close resemblance to the Nazi symbol known as the Wolfsangel.
This sparked an intense debate online under the hashtag “#GenZTattoo” on both TikTok and Twitter. Some tried to be educational by highlighting the history behind the logo, while other users implored Gen Z users not to get the tattoo on their body.
“Please don’t get the Gen Z matching tattoo, it’s extremely similar to a Nazi symbol (specifically the Wolfsangel),” one user wrote. “I’m begging you, please don’t.”

Dear #GenZ,

This particular tattoo does not mean what you think it does. That is a Neo-Nazi tattoo that represents the #14Words that neo-nazis use as a slogan. For the love of God do not put this tattoo on your body. #GenZTattoo #WhyIs2020SoFuckedUp pic.twitter.com/ir8niBMMYg
