Apple has unveiled an M1 chip designed for the new MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, and Mac Mini.
The chip seems to be an upgraded version of the A14 Bionic chip that was integrated into the new iPad and iPhones. It is equipped with two cores to the CPU, increasing the core count on the GPU itself. The CPU cores focus on high performance and high efficiency, making it a superior chip compared to those in previous devices.
Apple touted that the chip is optimized for machine-learning tasks, yielding a performance of up to 11 times faster than the older Intel chips.

When it comes to the appearance, the new MacBook Air looks a lot like it’s the former generation. However, it comes with the new M1 chip that is boasted to provide better performance. It offers up to 3.5 times faster CPU performance and five times graphics performance in comparison to the previous model. The new MacBook Air doesn’t come with a fan, further proving the efficiency of the new M1 chip.
It can allegedly offer 15 hours of web browsing or 18 hours of video playback, six hours longer than its predecessor. Since video calls are now an essential amid the coronavirus pandemic, Apple claims that the MacBook Air can run twice as long on video calls. The latest MacBook Air starts at US$999 and will begin shipping next week.
