Grimes has auctioned off a collection of crypto artworks for millions of dollars.
The digital collection, titled WarNymph, was launched last Sunday. The singer planned to sell 10 pieces of crypto art for 48 hours, and they ended up amassing over US$5.8 million in under 20 minutes.
Grimes sold her art pieces on non-fungible token (NFT) trading platform Nifty Gateway. One artwork, which shows a baby guarding Mars, was traded at over US$300,000 in under 10 minutes. The Newborn 2 NFT has been relisted at US$2.5 million.
Other artworks include images of a baby with wings in space, with some of the works being sent with music from Grimes herself. The piece Earth features the song Ærythe, while Death of the Old is accompanied by the demo of Anhedonia. Grimes sold her last art piece, Death of the Old, for nearly US$400,000.
Sales of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) have been on a rise over the past few weeks. NFTs, which operate as a unique type of digital asset or token, have been sold for millions of dollars a piece in some transactions, contributing to the US$100 million crypto-art market.
Grimes plans to donate a portion of her sales to Carbon 180, a non-profit organization focused on reducing carbon emissions.
