Strict repair policies and top-secret, anti-leak processes aside, Apple does have a sense of humor. The company is expressing its lighthearted side by actually using a meme as the template for its 2021 Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) announcement.
In the eye-catching visuals, Memojis can be seen opening their MacBooks and gazing at the displays in awe. Their glasses reflect details pertaining to the event.
The concept was evidently borrowed from screengrabs-turned-memes of Craig Federighi from last fall’s M1 Mac keynote. The Apple exec showed a similar level of fascination at the MacBook. The fact that Federighi is Apple’s senior vice president of software engineering also makes this reference an apt one for the annual developer’s event.

In the main imagery, the calendar icon reflected in the Memoji’s spectacles reads “June 7” and features an alert symbol showing 21 notifications. These nod at the starting date of the event: June 7, 2021.

And I'm pretty sure Apple is leaning hard on Craig's M1 MacBook meme rather than hinting at AR Glasses 😅 pic.twitter.com/pqRB6gyT1v
The animation also reveals icons for developer-focused tools, such as the Xcode, SF Symbols, and Transporter apps, per 9to5Mac.
The annual event is when Apple unveils major updates for its software, including additions to iOS, iPadOS, and macOS. This year’s conference will run from June 7 through 11.
