If humanoids like Sophia the Robot wore perfume, one could imagine them spritzing on some ‘Cyber Eau de Parfum’.
That’s the name of the scent, deemed the “world’s first digital fragrance,” concocted by Berlin-based contemporary beauty studio Look Labs. The perfume will be sold with a non-fungible token (NFT), though a physical version will debut later in the month, Dezeen learns.
More compellingly, Cyber Eau de Parfum has a scent—both physical and virtual. It features head notes of juniper berry, lemon, bergamot, and pepper, before luring the olfactory senses to a heart of incense, iris, and pine needles, and a woody base of sandalwood, cedarwood, and amber.
The digital fragrance is a translation of the molecular vibrations of the real-world version. To craft the cyber scent, the studio ran a near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) to extract the bottle, perfume, and label of the physical Cyber Eau de Parfum.
Apart from detailing scent data, the digital artwork spotlights a photorealistic render of the physical fragrance bottle, rotating on a stand. 10 of these virtual perfumes will be made available as NFTs, and purchasers of them will also receive a special-edition variation of the physical perfume.
And if you do manage to grab a bottle, it’d perhaps be wise to spritz only sparingly. Cyber Eau de Parfum has gone up on NFT retail platform Rarible for a cool, cool price of 10 Ether, or about US$20,960.
