While it’s been out on Android for a while, Xbox Game Pass has finally come to iOS in the form of an invitation-only beta. Also known as Xbox Cloud Gaming or xCloud, iOS users will be able to start or continue their Xbox games without needing a console or computer. Players can even switch between their consoles and iPhones, and vice-versa.
For the uninitiated, the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate is a game streaming service that includes Xbox Game Pass, allowing you access to a large library of Xbox and PC games, and Xbox Live Gold. It also gives you access to Xbox Cloud Gaming, which allows users to play Xbox games on other devices, like smartphones or tablets. Users won’t need an Xbox in order to make use of this service.
The Xbox Game Pass Ultimate retails for US$14.99 a month, with cheaper plans available for users who just want to opt for PC games (US$9.99 a month) or console games (US$9.99). iMore suggests getting the Ultimate deal, as it also comes with Xbox Live Gold, which allows you to play online games and access EA Play. However, prices may change when Xbox Game Pass on iOS isn’t in beta.
As for when it’ll be fully rolled out on iOS, Xbox said, “We are launching as a beta to continue to receive gamers’ feedback and build the features that will provide the best gaming experience.”
All iOS devices that want to run Xbox Game Pass will require iOS 12.0 on later. The app also takes up 98.2MB of space. As per iMore, users will also want to get an external controller, as only a few games currently feature touch controls. Both Xbox and PS4 wireless controllers work with the app, or you could opt for iPhone controllers that turn your phone into a gaming device.
Download the Xbox Game Pass here and access over 100 games available on the app.
Invites to the Xbox Cloud Gaming limited beta on Windows 10 PC and Apple phones and tablets will start to go out tomorrow for @XboxGamePass Ultimate members. Details here: https://t.co/LpNFVK7mqa
