New Balance Launches Unique Sustainable Sneakers Made From Surplus Shoe Parts

Many sportswear brands have created sustainable sneaker options, and now New Balance is joining the list. The MADE Responsibly 998 will feature one-of-a-kind sneakers crafted using surplus suede overlays, body mesh, lining, laces, collar strip, trim, and soles. Each pair will be mindfully handmade in New Balance’s New England facility.
Setting it apart from other sustainable sneakers is its uniqueness, with the shoes differing from one pair to the next. No two pairs will ever be made in exactly the same design. According to HYPEBEAST, New Balance will use new materials for the foam paddings, heel counter, and box toe.
While the available colorways aren’t known just yet, its website offers a peek at what’s behind the curtain. Colorways displayed include light blue and brown, navy blue and fuchsia, black and yellow with a speckled midsole, and more. As the shoes are made using surplus materials of different colors, they may not match the pictures shown.
The New Balance MADE Responsibly 998 will launch in the US on May 1, 10am Eastern Time. It’ll retail for US$179.99 per pair, and only a limited selection will be available. Find out more here. Only a limited number available.
