Following numerous delays, the Mercedes-AMG Project One Show Car will finally reach buyers sometime next year. This highly-anticipated automobile runs on a powertrain similar to the brand’s championship-winning Formula 1 car, which understandably has taken a good while to come up with.
According to CNET, the sports car will boast a 1,000-horsepower engine, which originally had only been seen on a race track. This meant, however, that engineers had to find ways of tweaking the vehicle so that it would be in line with regular street regulations.
For example, the original version of the engine idled at 5,000 rpm, but the bright minds at Mercedes had to develop a way for it to idle at 1,200 rpm instead.
The first production run will see 275 units of the supercar being produced, and if you were thinking of getting your hands on one of these bad boys, they’re unfortunately all sold out. The brand has yet to announce if it’s going to manufacture a second batch, but we’re keeping our eyes peeled.
Take a look at the stunning Project One Show Car, with Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton posing alongside.
