New World’s Thinnest Watch Will Make Your Bank Account Much Lighter Too

Time is literally being stretched thin with Richard Mille’s newest watch. It has created the world’s thinnest watch, coming in at just 1.75 mm and costing US$1.8 million.

The RM UP-01 Ferrari, named after the vehicle it was based on, won the race for the thinnest watch, which has been quite the contest in the timepiece universe. Richard Mille snatches the title from the previous record holder, Bulgari, whose Octo Finnissimo Ultra watch came in at just 1.8mm with its release this year. 

The creation of the RM UP-01 took over 6,000 hours to conceptualize. It features Richard Mille’s classic grade-five titanium and brand name on the head of the watch. The timepiece also houses a display for hours and seconds, perfectly crafted into the standard rectangular shape of all Richard Mille watches. At the bottom of the watch, the Prancing Horse stands proud as a mark of Ferrari's part in this ingenious watch.   

The cogs and movement of the watch were crafted directly into its case, setting it apart from its competitors, thus shaving off a few extra millimeters. The watch’s manual winding only weighs 2.82 grams and can withstand up to 5,000 Gs. It’s the perfect companion for serious athletes, the preferred spokespeople for Richard Mille, who include Ferrari’s own set of racecar drivers.

There will only be 150 iterations of the record-breaking watch available for people to get their hands (or their wrists) on this marvelous feat of engineering.
