OpenAI Rolls Out Incognito Mode To Guard Conversations On ChatGPT
OpenAI is introducing a new incognito mode for its incredibly popular ChatGPT service, which will remove users’ chat histories.
Currently, ChatGPT has a tab on its side that records all your past conversations under topic lines. However, with the rise of artificial intelligence, a new, fairly warranted fear of how much the technology is spying on people and recording information they put into it has also come.
The incognito mode will refrain from recording these conversations and prevent them from being used to train the AI.
A recent ban was put in place in Italy that prevented the chatbot from being used in the country, due to privacy violations. OpenAI could only resume services if it provided tools that allowed consumers to decide whether they wanted their data processed.
According to Reuters, OpenAI’s chief technology officer Mira Murati notes that information retrieved from users aids the company in removing political bias and “other issues.” However, it still has a lot of challenges to overcome.
The product officer, Nicholas Turley, highlights the importance of curbing abusive and hateful comments on the platform. As a preventive measure, discussions will be retained for 30 days before undergoing permanent deletion.
As of Tuesday, users can now turn off ‘Chat History & Training’ in their settings to keep their conversations with the AI private.
