With the Miami Grand Prix just a few days away, Mercedes AMG and its title clothing brand sponsor Tommy Hilfiger are lining up along the grid in an all-new collection inspired by the sport with streetwear brand Awake NY.
The speedy lineup marries the preppy and uptown looks of Hilfiger with the downtown aesthetics of Angelo Baque, founder of Awake NY.
Within the collection are seven pieces, all of which look ready for a fashion event or to tour the garages at a grand prix. Fans can expect to see T-shirts, sweaters, and baseball jerseys in a color palette of Hilfiger’s iconic red, white, and blue and Mercedes AMG’s black, white, and volt green.
On each, there is the collaborative branding of Tommy Hilfiger x Mercedes AMG x Awake NY, and Lewis Hamilton’s 44 or George Russell’s 63 racing numbers.
According to WWD, Hilfiger has been a fan of the sport since he was a kid, and in 2018, the brand became an official partner with the team, supplying uniforms and racing gear, and seen on the livery of the cars.
The next step was to take this partnership into the world of streetwear, and that’s where Baque stepped in. Per Hypebeast, the designer is also an enthusiast of the sport, specifically Hamilton. The main driving force behind the collection was to capture the electric spirit of the next generation of fans and deliver a line that would look good on the streets and at the finish line.
