WhatsApp Now Allows You To Edit Messages, But There Is A Catch
It’s finally here: WhatsApp announced it is rolling out a global update that allows users to edit pesky typos in text messages. However, there’s a catch, as messages can only be corrected up to 15 minutes after being sent.
According to the messaging service, the feature will be available to all users in the coming weeks. Although messages that have been changed will have an ‘edited’ notification pop up alongside them, no post history will be shown, so others won’t be able to see the previous version.
To access the editing function, simply press and hold on to a message before selecting ‘edit’ from the popup menu. It works similarly to the ‘delete’ option, though that erases the entire text and leaves behind the phrase: “This message was deleted.”

“From correcting a simple misspelling to adding extra context to a message, we’re excited to bring you more control over your chats. All you need to do is long-press on a sent message and choose ‘edit’ from the menu for up to 15 minutes after,” WhatsApp explained in a blog post.
As with all other texts and calls on the application, edits made on messages will be protected by the service’s end-to-end encryption. It’s certainly about time WhatsApp finally introduces the handy feature, considering its competitors Telegram and Signal have offered it for a long while.
