Banksy Announces His First Solo Exhibition In Over A Decade
Fans of elusive street artist Banksy will finally get a close-up look at his artworks this week, as the graffiti maestro recently announced his first solo exhibition in 14 years, which will take place at Glasgow’s Gallery of Modern Art from Sunday.
Titled CUT & RUN: 25 Years Card Labour, the showcase will feature work from across the originator’s storied career. The stenciled paintings of his famed pieces, such as Kissing Coppers, which was first spotted on the wall of the Prince Albert pub in Brighton in 2004.
Others that will make an appearance include 2014’s Mobile Lovers—an illustration of a hugging couple who are both looking at a screen over one another’s shoulder, a Union Flag stab vest donned by rapper Stormzy, and special pieces featured in Bethlehem in the West Bank.
A major highlight of the exhibition will be a detailed model explaining how Banksy shocked the world when he remotely shredded the renowned Girl With Balloon painting during a Sotheby’s auction in 2018.
This is the first time the artist is hosting a full-scale solo showcase of his works since 2009’s Banksy versus Bristol Museum exhibition. Though, as per the BBC, this isn’t the first time he’s heading to Glasgow, as he previously put on a little-known joint display all the way back in 2001.
Tickets to CUT & RUN: 25 Years Card Labour are now on sale, retailing at £15 per adult, £5 per child, and £10 for valid concession passes. The exhibition will be open from 9 am – 11 pm from Sunday to Thursday and 9 am – 5 am on Friday and Saturday. Head here for details.
