Apple’s New Film Shot On iPhone 14 Pro Tells The Tale Of A Lucha Libre Wrestler

Get ready for a new film by Apple, shot entirely on the iPhone 14 Pro. Huracán Ramírez vs. La Piñata Enchilada tells the story of a retired Lucha Libre wrestler out to save Mexico, and was directed by Tania Verduzco and Adrián Pérez, also known as Los Pérez. The Shot on iPhone campaign series first started in March 2015 and is led by creative agency TBWA Media Arts Lab to showcase the capabilities of the iPhones.
 
The story starts at a family-owned piñata shop where an older man and his grandson are setting about their day’s orders. After the man leaves, the young boy takes over, only to realize they have run out of sugar for the piñatas. Indulging in a bit of mischievousness, he instead substitutes the sugar for extra spicy chili powder. And that, in turn, unleashes a monster in the shape of a piñata that is about to wreak havoc on all of Mexico.

The police aren’t able to capture the monster and have to call down retired Lucha Libre wrestler, Huracán Ramírez, to save the day. The final battle occurs in an Aztec temple where the luchador and the possessed piñata engage in an epic boss battle.
 
All is well in the end as the monster explodes into candy, and Ramírez gives his famed mask to a young boy before taking off into the sunset like a true hero.

The film is a punchy (literally) and whimsical journey into the world of luchadores and candy creatures while taken on the humble iPhone 14 Pro. Many shots employ low-light conditions and wide angles that give it a more dramatic feel and make one forget they are watching something captured on a smartphone.

The iPhone sports a 48-megapixel Wide lens, and with its new Action Mode, it can capture smooth footage without shaking or vibrations. Those and special effects for the monster and fight scenes give it a cinematic edge.
