Spotify has just rolled out a fresh feature that’s all about your day: the Daylist. This new addition aims to redefine your listening experience by syncing up your tunes as the hours pass.
It’s basically a singular playlist that shape-shifts as the day unfolds, reflecting your musical tastes as you go about your business. Whether you’re facing that early morning commute or cooking dinner in the evening, daylist has a tune for every mood and moment.
The playlist undergoes daily updates, featuring fresh tracks and titles that mirror your day, all based on your past interactions with Spotify’s app. For instance, if your mornings have been filled with upbeat and cheerful tunes, you could receive a recommendation like “morning bedroom pop banger,” as illustrated in a sample daylist playlist shared by Spotify.
This feature seems to expand upon the streamer’s expertise in music metadata, a foundation it used to introduce Niche Mixes earlier this year. Niche Mixes allow users to input various activities, moods, or aesthetics to receive personalized playlists. Now, Spotify is taking those “vibes” and aligning them with your actual listening habits, creating a comprehensive playlist that encapsulates your musical journey throughout the day.
Spotify subtly confirms this approach by noting that the playlist receives frequent updates, amalgamating the “niche music and microgenres” you typically indulge in at specific times during the day and week.
What’s more, the visuals of your daylists adapt in harmony with the passing hours. It transitions from a cheerful, sun-kissed yellow against a blue backdrop in the morning to the warm hues of a sunset in the evening, then transforms into a calming moonlit scheme at night, finally settling into a deeper, nighttime black as the late hours roll in.
Daylist is launching for free and premium members in the US, the UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
