Off-White Immortalizes Its Runway Looks In New Line With Mattel’s Monster High
By Nicole Rodrigues, 10 Oct 2023
The late Virgil Abloh’s influence continues to ripple through the fashion world thanks to his work at Off-White and Louis Vuitton. Now, as a testament to his creative spirit, one of his final projects comes to life through an unexpected avenue: a collaboration with Monster High, brought to you by Mattel Creations.
This distinctive collaboration brings four iconic Off-White runway looks to life as dolls. The first, ‘Symphanee Midnight’, mirrors Abloh’s Off-White FW20 collection, featuring an Arc’teryx collaboration complete with chain-link jewelry and a Jitney 1.4 bag.
The next pair of dolls, ‘Harmonie Ghoul’ and ‘Raven Rhapsody’, draw inspiration from Off-White SS17. Harmonie Ghoul sports a tiered checkered dress paired with striking red knee-high boots. At the same time, Raven Rhapsody embodies a luxurious, sporty look, complete with wings, a horned hat, and various accessories.
The final doll, ‘Electra Melody’, takes cues from the SS18 collection inspired by Princess Diana. She wears the iconic “DRESS” dress, complemented by clear-wrapped heels and mismatched gloves, encapsulating Abloh’s creative ingenuity. She also carries the Burrow 22 bag with Monster High’s skull logo keychain.
“The Off-White team sent us references of patterns, runway photography, and even some in-house samples to understand the construction of the garments and accessories,” said designer Annalise Lao for Mattel Creations. “And if you look closely, you just might find some unique Monster High twists to some of the looks!”
The dolls also come packaged in a concrete-like box, a departure from the usually bright and whimsical Monster High packaging, and each also has a pedestal and casing for their accessories so you can show them off.
For those interested in acquiring these unique dolls, they will be available at Off-White flagship locations in select cities on October 11. Electra Melody will follow, with availability on Mattel Creations’ website and the Off-White website on October 13.
