Office Comedy Short 'Tempbot' Snags Top No Spot Prize
Only in the advertising industry could Gwyneth Paltrow, Spike Jonze and a Los Angeles directing team known simply as Happy all compete for the same award.

But only one took home a major prize at Creativity's No Spot Short Film Festival last night, presented by Technicolor, Grass Valley and Screenvision at Clearview Cinemas in Chelsea. Happy received Best Editing for its "Green" video, edited by Maury Loeb of PS 260, part of the Adidas Adicolor directors' series. Creativity is a sibling publication of Advertising Age.

Despite competition from Mr. Jonze's humorous "Miller Bear" and Ms. Paltrow's "Sex & The City"-esque "Dealbreaker," Neill Blomkamp won for Best Overall with "Tempbot," a quirky take on the office comedy. The film featured a hard-working robot who has a brief fling with neighbor Lynda Carter of "Wonder Woman" fame. (Notably, Mr. Blomkamp has since been been tapped by Peter Jackson to direct the highly anticipated feature film version of "Halo.")

Best Brand Film honors went to Charlie White for "Pink," his contribution to the Adicolor series, while former ad copywriter Tori Garrett was named Best Director for her short drama "The Barrows."

The eight finalists for this year's event were selected from a total of a record 180 submissions from creatives, Creativity and AdCritic.com editor Teressa Iezzi said. As in previous years, the submissions were a diverse and impressive bunch. "The overall quality in No Spot tends to be very high because the directors are used to crafting creative images," she said. "It's more important for people to express creativity in a range of formats and time lengths beyond the TV framework."

Also showing at this year's festival: "Other Than Marcus and Adeline" by Anonymous Content's Cody Allen, "Dear Josh" by Hungry Man's Brendan Gibbons and "Futagoyaro" by Element 79 creative Dave Straus.
