Auckland Art Gallery Launches Online Publication
AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND.- Auckland Art Gallery is proud to launch its first exclusive online publication. Take a virtual tour of the exhibition 5 4 3 2 1: Auckland Artist Projects in this new interactive web-based project funded by the Friedlander Foundation. As we count down to a landmark $90 million restoration and expansion project, invited artists have created works responding to the gallery and its collections. Five short movies unveil the unique character of each visual arts project. Five audio interviews reveal the creative process of artists Seung Yul Oh, John Reynolds, Andrew McLeod, Peter Madden and Lisa Reihana.

A new online archive ensures continued access to the gallery's proud history of artist projects. Since 1972, we have commissioned projects from over 140 artists - more than any art museum in the country. Most were experimental and groundbreaking for their time. The archive reads like a "Who's Who" of contemporary New Zealand artists, with works by Billy Apple, Ralph Hotere & Richard Killeen in the 1970s; Tony Fomison, Emily Karaka, Julian Dashper and Gretchen Albrecht in the 1980s.
