MySpace Flips for Flurl
With his venture capital firm LiveUniverse, Intermix founder/MySpace developer Brad Greenspan has purchased a majority stake in online video search engine Flurl.com. LiveUniverse focuses exclusively on video, entertainment and social networking. Flurl indexes video from more than 1000 video sites on the web, including YouTube. According to comScore World Data, the site had more than 5.6 million unique hits in the month of September.

"Video is one of the hottest trends right now and Flurl has developed a very strong market niche. I am eager to work with Flurl.com and its CEO Rene Muyrers to provide Flurl with resources and strategic aid," said Greenspan in a statement. "We are already being approached by major players such as Yahoo who have noticed the growing popularity and advanced technology of Flurl. Our goal is to accelerate the growth of such a unique video property."

Flurl indexes media sites using manual HTML, pattern-matching technology, as well as RSS feeds to get more accurate results. Flurl also keeps track of image, audio, and flash media. According to Muyrers, Flurl and its new primary investor are banking on the proliferation of online media to drive demand for a comprehensive search tool.
