CCX, founded by Dr. Richard L. Sandor, is the world's first and North America's only voluntary, legally binding rules-based greenhouse gas emissions reduction and trading system. The organization oversees the trading of credits (Carbon Financial Instruments) that companies earn for achieving reductions of emissions measured against baseline calculations. For his environmental efforts, Sandor was named a Hero of the Planet by Time magazine in 2002.
Knoll also predicts additional reductions from its baseline greenhouse gas average by the end of 2010. Over the next five years, Knoll estimates it will invest $1,000,000 in its commitment, which includes energy efficiency projects in its North American manufacturing facilities and a full-time staffer, or "energy czar," dedicated to trimming the company's environmental footprint.
"We welcome Knoll with pride and excitement to the CCX family," says Sandor, Chairman and CEO of CCX. "They are not only the first member of the furniture industry to take on a legally binding commitment to tackle climate change through CCX membership but also widely recognized for their design and materials excellence."
