With Meridian's aid, Interface created a Shipper FLEET Performance model, which addresses rail and truck transport parameters in the EPA model, as well as ocean and air impacts. With the new system, Interface can break down data to truckload and partial truck load, in order to precisely measure emission reduction results and production efficiency. The new data allows the manufacturer to keep accurate track of where it stands in terms of its sustainability goals.
"As a company, we have committed to Mission Zero", our promise to eliminate any negative impact the company has on the environment by 2020," says Tim Riordan, vice president of supply chain, Interface, and the company's liaison to the SmartWay Transport Partnership. The manufacturer also plans to reduce product transportation GHG by 50 percent by 2020.
The two firms received the award at the National Association of Environmental Management Forum, held Oct. 25-27, in Savannah, Georgia.
Both Interface and Meridian IQ are SmartWay Transport Partners, which is a market-based partnership introduced by the EPA to reduce fuel use, greenhouse gas emissions, and air pollutants from the freight sector.
