Robert Mingione became vice president of product design for Payless last week. It is a new position in which he will lead a new product design group. Mingione's first job will be to hire a design team in New York.
The Topeka-based shoe retailer said it will open a New York design center in Manhattan early next year. Payless said the center also will have a product showroom for media events that will double for investor meetings and other purposes.
Mingione had been with Kenneth Cole since 1995. Most recently, he had been head of footwear product design at the company. At Payless, Mingione reports to Mike Jeppesen, divisional senior vice president of product design and development.
Payless plans to announce its third-quarter earnings Tuesday after the stock market closes. Payless shares were up 26 cents at $28.33 in midday trading on the New York Stock Exchange.
