"French Modern Design Sources," presented by the Georges Pompidou Art & Culture Foundation will include more than 45 pieces by members of the French Union of Modern Artists (U.A.M.)—a counter-culture group formed in the late 1920s—including Le Corbusier, Jean Prouvé, and Charlotte Perriand. Several pieces have never before been seen in the U.S.
Moss Gallery New York will host "Live! From Our Studios," an installation of specially commissioned pieces by designers such as Hella Jongerius and Tord Boontje. Established & Sons—which won the Design Miami/Basel Designers of The Future Award this past June—will introduce the new Black Edition Aqua Table by architect Zaha Hadid, as well as pieces from her Seamless collection and items from other designers. "Smart Deco," presented by Barry Friedman and Droog Design is a "21st century period room" decorated with commissioned pieces by European designers such as Marcel Wanders.
Presented by R20th Century Gallery and Steuben Glass, "New Objects: USA" will honor traditions and techniques in hand-crafting furniture via the works of designer-artists such a Wendell Castle and Jeff Zimmerman. R20th Century will also present "Paula Hayes/Hugo França," focusing on Hayes's artful glass terrariums, planters, and birdhouses, alongside Hugo França's sculptural furniture made from fallen trees. Contrasts Gallery and Byblos will also host satellite exhibitions.
