The deadline for proposal submissions is 19 January 2007. From the initial submissions, a short list of candidates will be invited to submit full bids that will be reviewed by the IDA Executive Committee in May 2007.
The IDA exists to bring the benefits of design to world bodies, governments, business and society. The Congress is the optimum environment in which to advance the aims of the alliance in a themed framework and to reach a truly global audience. The Call for Interest is a general call, meaning it is open to both members and non-members of the IDA s constituent partners: the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (Icsid), the International Council of Graphic Design Associations (Icograda) and the International Federation of Interior Architects (IFI), whose affiliation with the IDA is due for ratification by its members next year. These three partners have held numerous joint congresses in the past, but hope that the first IDA Congress will set a new standard for international design collaboration events. Proposals that demonstrate an original and innovative approach and that celebrate the modern role of design in the world are therefore welcomed.
The benefits to the host of an IDA Congress are plenty: profile building events that attract the leaders in global design, global media coverage, lucrative sponsor relationship building, investment in the host local area and a long-lasting relationship with the networks of the IDA partner organisations.
