This exhibition presents Georg Baselitz's preoccupation with his own oeuvre from the 60s and early 70s, which has resulted in a reinterpretation and variation of his legendary early work, including the pictures of his "heroes". The furious works from the old days, bursting with vigour, are now being contrasted with a "remix" in serene and brighter colours that sometimes is even self-ironical. By putting his mastership to the test and venturing this variation of his works, the 68-year-old Baselitz subliminally follows Edvard Munch, the father of this kind of painterly recapitulation. The display will include some 30 large-scale paintings and 60 related works on paper, which are shown for the first time.
Georg Baselitz's works constitute a major focus within the ALBERTINA'S activities as a collector of contemporary art.
