HARRISBURG, Pa., Jan. 23 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Pennsylvania artists are invited to enter their work in the 40th annual Art of the State exhibit and show at The State Museum from June 9 to Sept. 9.
The highly competitive, juried art exhibition showcases the diversity and excellence of commonwealth artists and is co-sponsored by the museum and The Greater Harrisburg Arts Council.
"I encourage Pennsylvania's many gifted artists to participate in this year's event so museum visitors will have the opportunity to see the vast talent that resides in the state's art community," said Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission Executive Director Barbara Franco.
The competition is open to state residents in five categories: painting, works on paper, photography, sculpture and craft with distinguished jurors Kevin Wixted, Alfred University; Juan Carlos Castro, University of British Columbia; Wendy Wilkinson-Gordon, New Hope Arts. Inc.; and John Vanco, Erie Art Museum.
The Greater Harrisburg Arts Council will give awards totaling $5,000 with additional $250 prizes from The Rose Roy Memorial Award Honoring Volunteerism and the William D. Davis Memorial Award for Drawing. The State Museum also offers a $2,000 Purchase Award.
