NEW YORK, Feb.-- BOMBAY SAPPHIRE(R) Gin, the leading super-premium gin in the United States, announced today that up-and-coming industrial designer, Michael Kritzer, from Georgia, has won the 4th Annual U.S. Designer Glass Competition for his inspired martini cocktail glass design, Palletini. This annual competition offers aspiring designers that are 21 years of age or older from around the United States the chance to break into the competitive world of design, by interpreting the classic martini cocktail glass in their own distinctive style, drawing inspiration from BOMBAY SAPPHIRE.
Palletini, a blue and silver mother-of-pearl colored glass, has a shape reminiscent of a painter's palate to reflect the individual spirit and creative nature of a BOMBAY SAPPHIRE martini cocktail. "Winning the U.S. competition will definitely give me a jump start to breaking into the design world," stated Kritzer. "I am thrilled to be recognized and supported for the work that I love."
The announcement took place last evening in New York City at a private event with Designer Glass Competition judges including Rande Gerber, design innovator and inventor of the stemless O glasses, Maximillian Riedel, designer to the stars, Sami Hayek and the boundary busting Jean-Francois Bouchard, Principal Director of Creative Products for Cirque du Soleil.
Also, for the first time ever, consumers (21+) had the opportunity to vote for the ultimate martini cocktail glass design.
"As more and more aspects of our every day lives are influenced and enhanced by design, the fascination with this art form continues to grow, as does the excitement around and participation in this competition," stated Christine Moll, Marketing Manager, BOMBAY SAPPHIRE. "BOMBAY SAPPHIRE is proud to continue helping talented individuals fulfill their dreams of becoming the designers who will shape tomorrow."
As the U.S. winner, Kritzer is now off to Milan, Italy to compete in the global finals where the winners from over 27 participating countries will debut their innovative glass designs. The finals, held each year during Salone del Mobile, the biggest design fair in the world, offer Kritzer the once in a lifetime opportunity to meet and discuss the world of design with today's leading experts. These design luminaries, including Karim Rashid, Tom Dixon and Marcel Wanders will be judging the international competition and providing design hopefuls with unprecedented access to their expertise and wisdom. The global winner will also receive $15,000 toward his or her design career.
BOMBAY SAPPHIRE continues to impact the evolution of design and its influence on the lives of consumers over the age of 21. In addition to hosting the Designer Glass Competition to support up and coming talent, BOMBAY SAPPHIRE also showcases the established stars of the design community in its print advertising campaign, for which one-of-a-kind martini cocktail glass designs have been created by Michael Graves, Jonathan Adler and most recently Yves Behar.
