The second Meeting of the Scientific Committee of Torino 2008 World Design Capital ended on Tuesday, 6 March 2007. Michael Thomson, Guta Moura Guedes and Enrico Morteo met with the staff of the Organising Committee for two days of fast-paced, constructive encounters concerning the elements of the initiative and just what Torino 2008 World Design Capital truly wants to be. The debate led to the definition of the organisational setup of the entire manifestation, including a subdivision into four specific, thematic macro-areas. Every related initiative will take place within these thematic areas.
The first macro-area involves the general public and aims at familiarising the public with the world and the concept of design. The second macro-area will study the relationship between design, business and the economic world; the third will center on education and will actively involve young students of design schools from all over the world. The fourth macro-area will feature the world's most prestigious design centers, which will be hosted in Torino in order to encourage dialog and an exchange of experiences on an international level.
During the meeting, a visual guide was drawn up containing the norms for making use of the elements that help define the visual identity of the initiative. The logo, the font and the chromatic tones of green will be presented as instruments to be used during the various projects.
The objective is to dialog, in an open and flexible manner, with various forms of creativity and professionalism that, together, will help construct and define the image of Torino 2008 World Design Capital.
The results of this important work on the contents of the initiative, for which the efforts of the Scientific Committee have been a determining factor in terms of ideas and experience, will be officially presented during a press conference that will be held in Milan at the prestigious head offices of the newspaper Corriere della Sera on 18 April 2007 during the Salone del Mobile.
