Marking a turn from the formerly speculated "Longhorn" back in 2001, the new name was unveiled before 10,000 attendees during a Microsoft sales conference held in Atlanta. The new title also break Microsoft's practice of serialising its editions with numeric digits (e.g. Windows 95, Windows 2000) or acronyms (Windows NT, Windows XP).
Since its first demonstration in 2003, the then-Longhorn have evolved its technologies with new inclusion such as an Avalon graphics engine and an Indigo web services architecture system. Laptop users will also see more improved enhancements with this version of Windows. These new features were also accompanied with its decision to exclude plans for its all-new WinFs file system.
Microsoft Vista also looks set to raise business efficiency with reduced number of reboots.
