DENVER, CO.- The Clyfford Still Museum announced today that it has been awarded a Save America's Treasures (SAT) matching grant for $150,000 to aid efforts in conserving artworks in the Clyfford Still Estate. Scheduled to open in 2010, the museum will house the entire Still Estate, representing over 94 percent of this important American artist's creative output. SAT is supported by the National Endowment for the Arts, in partnership with the National Park Service, the U.S. Department of the Interior.
"We are honored to have the collection recognized as a national treasure," said Dean Sobel, Director of the Clyfford Still Museum . "The Clyfford Still Museum will be an unparalleled resource on this seminal Abstract Expressionist painter. Receiving the Save America's Treasures grant allows the museum to continue our efforts to conserve these extraordinary works for the eVnjoyment of future museum visitors and scholars alike."
The Clyfford Still Museum was one of only 42 national institutions to be awarded a grant this year from Save America's Treasures, which provides critical funds to preserve the nation's most significant endangered intellectual and cultural artifacts, historic structures, and sites.
There were over 325 applicants from across the country for the SAT grant this year. All Save America's Treasures grantees demonstrated their organization's significance to the country's history and cultural heritage, made a compelling case about the need for preservation, and are required to match their awarded amount through private fundraising.
