Royal Academy of Arts: Stephen Walter in the Café Gallery

These photographs were taken over a ten year period in different parts of the world. Without a pre-conceived plan of subject matter, the collection grow serendipitously. Whenever a scene of interest was chanced upon the picture would be taken, resulting in montages that reference the sublime and show humorous juxtapositions of ironic situations relevant in a world of both beauty and convenience.
Stephen Walter uses a range of media including drawing, photography, digital media, screen-printing, collage and painting. He is currently a Printmaking Fellow at the Royal Academy schools, involved with the digital suite and screen-printing departments which the Schools offers its students. The work shown here relates to this side of his practice.
