Drawings, Paintings and Sculpture by Sigmund Abeles
EVENT ANNOUNCEMENT

Myrtle Beach-bred, New York artist Sigmund Abeles was profoundly influenced in his formative years by mentors and muses in the Grand Strand area. When there were no public school offerings for artistically gifted students, Gerard Tempest and Truman Moore took the young Abeles under their respective wings and shared their knowledge and love of art.

His mother, Rose, though a single-parent, made certain her son had opportunities to hone his skills at Brookgreen Gardens, one of America's foremost sculpture gardens, located in Pawleys Island. This haven of art and nature provided extraordinary examples of figurative art for Abeles to study, and he spent innumerable hours drawing the human form there. A tribute to Messrs. Tempest and Moore and the artist's mother, this exhibition includes some of Abeles' early works as well as more recent ones.

The exhibit opens with a reception from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. May 3, with a Gallery Talk at 6 p.m. given by the artist. The exhibit continues through September 3 with regular gallery hours from 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, 1 - 4 p.m. Sundays.
