The Blue Planet Run Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicating to raising global awareness about the lack of safe drinking water, today announced Motorola, Inc. as the official provider of wireless products for the inaugural 2007 Blue Planet Run, which begins today. The Blue Planet Run is an unprecedented around-the-world relay run that spotlights the human crises caused by the lack of safe drinking water in impoverished communities globally.
Motorola, a global leader in wireless and broadband communications, will provide all wireless equipment necessary for the 20 Blue Planet runners and support staff to stay connected to each other, family and the press during the 95-day run. The 2007 Blue Planet Run event, which is made possible by the support of The Dow Chemical Company, will circumnavigate the earth's Northern Hemisphere, covering 15,200 miles, passing through 16 countries and 4 continents, 24 hours a day for 95 days to deliver the message and importance of ensuring safe drinking water for everyone on the planet. Events in cities and towns along the route will mark the run's arrival, educate local residents about the water crisis and inspire action. The Run concludes in New York City on September 4.
