Conditions:
All national and international companies and designers are invited to register industrially manufactured products launched on the market within the last two years.
The red dot design award is internationally renowned. This is also given proof by numbers: In the year 2003 more than 4.000 participants form 44 nations registered for the red dot design award. This is because the winners know that with the help of the label "red dot" they can reach the design-community world-wide. In this way, far from the mechanisms of mere price competition, the red dot positions the design product on the market on a totally different - quality-orientated - level. The red dot is therefore an efficient tool for strengthening a brand - and the image of the manufacturer.
An international and independent Jury of design-experts selects the winners with strict, objective and fair rules. Only these are allowed to decorate themselves with the red dot, the seal of quality for good design.
Together with the opportunity to win a red dot-award, the Design Zentrum NRW offers all entrants a further service. On request, the Design Zentrum will register the products entered with the European Office for Harmonisation as Community Designs. In this way, brand rights can be secured in the long term in a total of 25 countries, and the design innovations protected from imitators and plagiarists. Registration is possible whether the product wins an award or not. The advantage of registering through the red dot design award competition is the service provided: it comprises the handling of the entire registration process and advice from a prestigious law firm.
The award ceremony for all winners will take place in Essen's Aalto Theatre on 5 July 2004. This celebration has long established itself as a meeting place for international entrepreneurs, managers and designers who use it to make and develop contacts.
All the award-winning products are exhibited for at least one year in the red dot design museum at the Zollverein Mine, part of the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage. There, they are presented both to the public at large and to a professional audience in an elegantly designed show surrounded by the industrial architecture of Zollverein, inspired by the Bauhaus. The special exhibition of the award winners from 2004 will be opened on the same day as the award ceremony, and will run from 6 July to 8 August 2004.
