When Kartell met Starck, the traditional design process was turned on its head—the Italian design house has teamed up with the visionary designer Philippe Starck to launch a trail of trendy chairs crafted with a little help from artificial intelligence.
Dubbed the A.I. Collection, the collaboration is sculpted by Autodesk’s generative design algorithm, based on extensive datasets on structure and material efficiency. Starck and Kartell have fed their insights into the model, which in turn has dished out designs that resonate with Starck’s signature style peppered with the precision and efficiency of AI.

Sustainability is woven into the pieces, each forged from 100% recycled materials, heralding a new era of eco-conscious furniture design.

The A.I. family has grown to include stools and a console. The A.I. Stool, for example, offers a cozy perch in two heights, catering to diverse needs and spaces, while the A.I. Console brings a minimalist elegance to any room it graces, available in a palette of nature-inspired hues. Meanwhile, the latest to join the family, the A.I. Lounge, merges comfort with a sleek, future-oriented design, making it a perfect fit for modern living spaces.

“In getting to know each other, Starck was teaching the system about design intent while the AI was trying to learn as much as possible, in order to be as helpful as possible. As the relationship between the two matured, the system became a much stronger collaborative partner, and began to anticipate Starck’s preferences and the way he likes to work,” shares Mark Davis, senior director of design futures at Autodesk.
