Curiously Quirky-Looking Fowls Get Photographed In Chic, Retro-Styled Portraits

By Yoon Sann Wong, 09 Jun 2016

It all started with a chance encounter over the Internet that led Italian photographer Dan Bannino to embark on his latest retro-style project called ‘Chic Chicks’.

Bannino had chanced upon this unusual, funky-looking species of poultry called Paduan Chicken one day while browsing through news on the web. His curiosity and passion for nature spurred him to venture down to Padua to find Andrea Pozzato–the Italian champion of chicken breeding–and photograph this distinctive species.

Paduan Chickens sport a unique crown of feathers on their heads reminiscent of trendy hairstyles from the ’80s. Bannino used this as inspiration for his chick portraits that are bathed in colorful lights and created using the Chiaroscuro technique.
