Beauty blogger Kadeeja Khan was left feeling devastated after cosmetics brand L’Oréal offered to work with her before withdrawing its offer apparently due to her skin issues.

Khan who has 124,000 followers on Instagram, is known for sharing her struggles with acne, candid selfies of her makeup-free face, and the latest makeup products via her Instagram account @emeraldxbeauty.

In an email from L’Oréal, the company revoked the offer by stating that it could not “be involved with people with skin issues.”

The cosmetics company has since issued an apology, stating that there was a misunderstanding between the casting agents when they sourced for bloggers with skin conditions. According to Allure, L’Oréal has plans to release a new vegan dye and was apparently looking for hairstylists to star in the campaign instead.

L’Oréal subsequently clarified that the brand was open to working with people with skin conditions and admitted that the message to Khan, which left the blogger feeling devastated, was insensitively communicated. Khan said she felt frustrated upon reading the email, as she felt she was not good enough due to her skin imperfections.

Despite the disappointment, Khan announced that she would continue to advocate what she truly believes in and challenge the beauty industry’s limiting, and often unrealistic, standards.
