Disney Revises ‘Princess Tiana’ Design In ‘Wreck-It Ralph 2’ Following Criticism
Following reviews of
‘Princess Tiana’ inside its Wreck-It Ralph
sequel, Ralph Breaks the Internet
, it seems the studio has heard fans’ remarks and proceeded to revise the character’s design.
The Wall Street Journal
reported that Disney has reanimated relevant segments of the upcoming animation, in part due to feedback from Anika Noni Rose, the actress who voices ‘Tiana’, and representatives from Color of Change
, a nonprofit group that fights against inequality and racism in depictions of black characters in media.
According to Mashable,
Color of Change representatives had met with Disney animators to help with the relevant edits and ensure that the issues were addressed as best as possible.
Color of Change president
Rashad Robinson tweeted
, “Big news. Because of COC members and convos with @DisneyAnimation, Princess Tiana has been restored to her original depiction. Now when Black girls watch #WreckItRalph2, they’ll see Tiana and other princess of color that actually looks like them on screen #BlackGirlMagic.”
