After the success of Sudoku and Wordle, fans might be wondering what the next big game could be. OpenAI’s ChatGPT is entering the ring with its version, Sumplete, which it had created with some help from a human user, Daniel Tait.
Tait asked ChatGPT if it could recommend something similar to Sudoku. Eventually, he wondered if the generative model would create a new logic game. It took a few attempts, but the chatbot ultimately delivered Sumplete, initially named ‘Sum Delete’.
The chatbot employed HTML and Javascript during the conception of the game. Tait then took over, put the final touches on it, and placed it on a website that people can visit to play Sumplete.
At first glance, Sumplete looks almost like Sudoku. However, in this case, it features additional numbers at the end of each row and column. The objective is to delete cells so that whatever is left can equal the digits at the end.
The game is more fast-paced than Sudoku because when a numeral is deleted from a row, it disappears from the column it crosses with. So a 3x3 grid might be too easy for those well-versed in logic games. Thankfully, you can always increase the number of cells for more of a challenge.
According to TechRadar, it seems like Sumplete also takes cues from Picross—a Japanese puzzle where you have to create an image by matching it to squares on a grid. The numbers at the end act as a guide, as the picture does in Picross.
Whether or not Sumplete will take off is to be seen, but this might herald a new era of people creating their own inspired versions of the games they love.
