Artist Turns Filthy Car Windows into Art Masterpieces
By Art / HXY, 07 Sep 2010
An artist has replicated Johannes Vermeer’s famed Girl with the Pearl Earring on one of the most unlikely canvases: a car’s dusty windshield.
Scott Wade might humbly describe his speciality as “dirty car art”, but it fails to do justice to his incredibly detailed dust paintings, which aren’t your average window pane scrawl.
Besides combining the iconic Mona Lisa and The Starry Night into a single work, Wade has also 'painted' personalities that include Albert Einstein and footballer Ronaldinho.
The artist gently brushes across the dust as he would on canvas. His works seem almost like the two-dimensional form of another fleeting form of art: sandcastle building.
Such artworks last as long as sandcastles generally do—rain easily washes it away. Wade does intentionally spray the window shield with dust, as demonstrated in the video above. Quite ironically, the window has to be cleaned for the dirt to stick to it.
