British Studio Designs 2 Pound Coin
By Product Design / IO, 30 Nov 2010
London shop DesignStudio created a design for the British two-pound coin, celebrating the 400th anniversary of the King James Bible, reports Creative Review.
The coin’s face demonstrates the original process of the printing press, a revolution in the publishing world that was sparked by the translation and printing of the King James Bible.
The words “In the beginning was the Word” appears recessed on the face, and beside it a protruding mirror-image of the quote, resembling the printing block.
The coins are available in several collector editions—the first is slated for December—and will enter general circulation in late 2011, according to Creative Review.
DesignStudio posted the fascinating process on the design of the coin, including initial concepts and its design rationale.
