Designer Reimagines News As Pictograms, So Don’t ‘Read’ All About It
By Anthea Quay, 05 Mar 2012
London-based graphic designer Stephen McCarthy reimagined what newspapers would look like if they were purely in pictographic forms.
In his project ‘Pictograms: The Newspaper’, McCarthy reinterpreted a whole newspaper (namely, ‘The Sun’) in pictographic content.
“Each page was distilled down to a concise pictogram,” McCarthy wrote.
The main story of each page were turned into pictograms and reprinted (one pictogram per page) as a newspaper—for those who’d rather not ‘read’ all about it.
The result? Concise, and somewhat comical images that briefly cover topics—such as phone sex, XFactor, child abuse and recession—for easy consumption.
