Business Card That Reveals Information With A Custom Decoding ‘Mask’
By Anthea Quay, 08 Jun 2012
Pittsburgh-based designer Karl D D Willis has created an obfuscated business card that consists of a laser-cut decoding mask layer, and an encoded layer.
Called ‘Moiré Card’, the decoding mask layer helps reveal information into a readable form on the encoded layer, when the mask slides slowly on the surface of the other layer—making both layers important to each other.
Willis got the concept from his recent projects of embedding hidden information “for communication or tracking purposes”, he writes.
“A custom Processing program was created to slice separate images together to create the encoded design,” he continues. “The program also simulates the look of the final card by rendering the decoding mask layer above the encoded design.”
