Mesmerizing, Gigantic Sand Drawings On Stunning Coastlines

Environmental artist and photographer Tony Plant has been creating ephemeral artworks in natural locations for the past 20 years—these awe-inspiring, large-scale sand drawings are among his most impressive creations.
Etching out beautiful patterns on some of the world’s most exposed coastlines, the artist takes hours to create each sand drawing—which are deliberately made to be washed away by the incoming tide or a storm.
Plant’s sand art is not only lovely to behold but also makes a strong statement about the transient nature of beauty and life—by accepting and even welcoming the waves that will wash away his work, he teaches us an important lesson in letting go.
